Modification of Silica Surface with Alumina

Abstract

The technique of silica surface modification with alumina using aluminum triethoxide was worked out for the first time. It was shown by IR-spectra that modification took place only on silica surface. It was shown by nitrogen adsorption method that sorbent surface area decreased by 30% in comparison with silica. The sorbent obtained was used for normal phase HPLC of aromatic carbohydrates. Silica modified with alumina retains aromatic carbohydrates weaker then silica, what is connected with the change of chemical properties of sorbent and its surface area.
