New fine textured form of amorphous alumina in the form of hollow macrotubes

Abstract

By heating of partially hydrolyzed AlCl3 in the flow of the gas (hydrogen, helium, air) at normal pressure the new form of amorphous alumina was obtained in the form of long hollow tubes with length up to 4-6 cm and diameter up to 250-300 micrometers. Amorphous material of the tubes was characterized by means of chemical analysis, electronic and atomic-force microscopy, local microanalysis, NMR (27Al)- and FTIR-spectra, X-ray diffraction analysis. The possible mechanism is proposed.
