Chromatographic analysis of the berberis homoeopatic preparations

Abstract

Procedures of determination of alkaloids of Berberis vulgaris in the matrix homoeopathic tincture and in the multi component homoeopathic preparations have been developed. Composition of tincture containing alkaloids has been studied by HPLC with help of diode array multi-wavelength detector. 13 compounds have been revealed and the purity of their peaks in tridimensional coordinates (time – intensity of absorption – wavelength) has been determined. Quantitative estimation of total alkaloids in the tincture (from 0.20 to 0.60 %) has been fulfilled. The content of berberine from this amount is about 38–42 %. Methods of chromatographic “finger prints” for determination of identity of homoeopathic preparation of Berberis are disclosed.
