Ionic Liquid Based on Quarternary Phosphonium Cation as Plasticizer and Electrode-Active Component of Ion-Selective Electrode Membranes

Abstract

Ionic liquid dodecylethyldiphenylphosphonium bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)imide behaves as both plasticizer and electrode-active component in the membranes of ion-selective electrodes (ISE). Stable potentiometric response towards cationogenic surfactants is observed. The slope of electrode function is close to Nernstian value (cetylpyridinium and cetyltrimethylammonium bromides; detection limits are (5±1)´10–6 M and (1,3±0,3)´10–5 M respectively). Membrane potential does not depend on the pH in the range from 3 to 11. The possibility of determination of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) with the ISE is demonstrated.
