Time-Space Evolution of the Ion-Electron Pairs Formed by Auger-Electrons Around the Mossbauer Ion 57Fen+

Abstract

It is shown that emission of the Auger-electrons during formation of the Moessbauer nucleus 57Fe leads not only to formation of the multi-charged ion 57Fen+, but to formation of a cloud of many (200–300) ion-electron pairs (H2O+, e) around Fe ion. This cloud is called as Auger-blob. Its size (radius) is about ~100 E. Fast radiation-chemical reactions in the Auger-blob determine experimentally observable ratio of yields of final chemically stable ions Fe3+ and Fe2+ . Knowledge of this ratio is important for adequate interpretation of the results of the emission Moessbauer spectroscopy. In spite of the estimations done are related to frozen aqueous solutions, they can be easily adjusted to media of another chemical composition.
