Benzylcyclopropane in reaction solvomercuration

Abstract

Benzylcyclopropanes regioselectively react with mercury (II) acetate in formic acid to give mercursolvoadducts with high yields. It was shown that formyloxygroup in homobenzyl position of 4-chloromercursubstituted arylbutanes is predisposed to easy solvolysis or nucleofilic substitution for bromine under bromodemercuration conditions.
