Molecular imprinting of penicillin V in polyelectrolyte layers deposited onto a track-etched membrane

Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate track-etched membranes have been modified by deposition of polyallylamine hydrochloride and polyacrylic acid monolayers from 91–96% (vol.) ethanol with and without penicillin V. Sorption and diffusion of penicillin V is higher for the membranes modified in the presence of this compound (the imprinted ones), which evidences the formation of molecular imprints of the template in the polyelectrolyte layer. The imprints are formed if the polyelectrolytes are deposited onto the membrane from a solution of ionic liquid (butylmethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate). Sorption of foreign compounds on imprinted and non-imprinted membranes does not differ, which confirms the formation of selective molecular imprints of penicillin V.
